LYCIA. Telmessos. Late 3rd century-190/89 BC. AE (Bronze, 15 mm, 3.31 g, 12 h). Radiate and draped bust of Helios facing. Rev. [TEΛM]H/ΣEΩN Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding bow in left hand and arrow in right; to left, countermark. BMC 1. SNG von Aulock 4451. Very rare. Very fine.

The reverse of this interesting issue was copied from Seleucid prototypes. It must therefore date to before 190/89, when Antiochos III lost the battle of Magnesia against the Romans, and, consequently, control over Trans-Tauric Asia Minor.
